My name is Jenna.I am thrilled to be participating in the 2015 U of I Writing Project Summer Institute!
I've spent the last two years teaching 8th grade English and Language Arts, but I am very excited to begin my first year as a high school English teacher this fall. While teaching, I am also pursuing my Master of English Studies through Illinois State. Personal writing has been a pillar in my life since I was old enough to properly hold a pencil. I write for expression, catharsis, and entertainment. The joys of teaching also come with sacrifice of time and personal interests, so writing has been on my back burner for far too long. The Summer Institute gives me a refreshing opportunity to focus on my voice as a writer, which is precisely what I need! Other than teaching and writing, I try to run regularly. I love a good 5k, because the atmosphere of a race is energizing. In April 2015, my sister and I ran our first half marathon, which allowed me to meet and exceed many personal goals. I also enjoy finding easier and/or healthier versions of my favorite fatty meals, and snuggling my 9 year old adopted beagle, Kate. |
